SPOORNET
Is the name of the government owned railways in South Africa.
I recently received a 3 megapixel cell phone camera as a gift and I hope to take a number of photos and add them to the site. I plan to put a low resolution image on the page; some of the pics are available from me in the 400-600k range if anybody wants them.. At the moment I’m still getting to grips with the camera, so the first few pics may be a bit horrible.
I live in Vereeniging, which is 30 miles south of Johannesburg “Joburg”, South Africa, and about a mile from the double track main line that runs north to Joburg. This line has a lot of traffic and it varies from Blue Train to Suburbans and all the freight trains you can imagine. Unfortunately, all the locomotives passing through here are JuiceJacks- electrics to those who don’t know, but their variety in paint schemes makes up for the boredom of their boxy appearance. The Class 34 and 38 diesels seldom venture out of the city limits. I will attempt to take pictures of them when I can.
My favourite spot to take photos is at Redan station, about a mile north of my home on the highway. Redan is no more than a wide spot on the line now and trains only pause here to pass each other. Spoornet sometimes parks trains here for a day or two on what can only be thought of as Dead-on-Time (Drivers who’ve stopped their trains when their shift was over).
I've added a video page and freight car page that I hope to update when I have access to a hi-speed data line.
I was Trackside at REDAN on 090316 and caught some interesting trains!
Let me know here what you think of the pages. I'm using a Tytn II cameraphone to shoot the videos and pics.

Looking north at South Redan on 081218 at 11:30. Don't know how long it has been standing here. Probably Dead on Time. There was a 3 dome pot car attached to the back.
